REWET-III facility

The REWET-III was mainly designed for investigations of natural circulation phenomena in VVER-440 reactors. The REWET-III facility was an extended version of the earlier REWET-II facility, with the same scaling factor of 1:2333. A horizontal steam generator, a pressurizer and two loop seals was added to the primary loops. Otherwise the facility consisted of the same parts as the REWER-II facility and also the same rod bundles could be used in the experiments.

The horizontal steam generator consisted of 12 full length (7.7 m) horizontal U-tubes. The diameter of the U-tubes and the space between them were the same as in the reference reactor. The heat transfer area of the tube bundle was scaled down with the same scaling factor as the plena and it corresponded to the total heat transfer area of the steam generators in the five intact loops of the reference reactor.

The centerlines of the hot and the cold legs of the facility and the reference reactor matched each other. The emergency core cooling systems included a low pressure injection system and an accumulator system. They had injection points in upper plenum and downcomer.

The last experiments were carried out with the facility at 1987. After that the facility was disassembled. Totally 87 experiments were carried out.
